New signings, re-signings, and confirmed departures
Is Jay leaving making way for Draper

I'm almost disappointed that I'll no longer get to be irrationally annoyed by our support's inability to spell McEveley's name correctly.

Anyway, this news isn't a surprise. I wonder if we'll look to replace him, or whether Jim's happy with the cover he's got with Davies, Fraser, Naismith and KvdW all competent at centre back, and Kelly an untested possibility? We're definitely covered if he's going to play 4 at the back a lot, and probably covered if playing 3/5 at the back, barring unlucky injuries/suspensions.

McEveley was just too error prone to be a reliable centre half. Honest trier but how many goals did we leak due to him switching off? I'm much happier with Fraser or Naismith partnering Davies.

Defensively we have:
Kelly, VDW, Davies, Fraser, Naismith, Tumilty for a back 4.
Malcolm, Dow, and Gardyne thrown into mix for a back 5.

That could be enough, but Id be more comfortable with another 'specialist' centrehalf like Meekings in the squad.
I know Fraser has looked good so far, as has Naismith on the occasion he's played in the centre, but Davies is our only defender who has played regularly at centre-half over the last few seasons.
Might be a bit optimisic for a back 4 to survive with a pile of adaptable fullbacks and one injury-prone centrehalf?
Admittedly, I may be being greedy.

Based on last seasons 3412 (or 5212, or 532 with an AMC, or whatever you want to call it):
A back 3 of Meekings Davies Fraser, with Kelly and Naismith as wingbacks, is pretty exciting.
Leaves Malcolm, VDW and Tumilty as back-up for those 5 positions
Also allows Dow and Gardyne to fight over the midfield role behind the front two, which is arguably their best position.
That would hopefully help alleviate concerns about the lack of creativity in our central midfielders (or other concerns with Woods).
Again tho, that's with no idea of budgets and if we can afford a replacement.

Agreed, and with the backup id imagine we would rotate as the wing back role can pretty hard to play for 30+ games a season.

Couple of questions for those with inside knowledge of the club - do County have any scouting system in operation in England - do we use any particular agent/intermediary to facilitate signings.

That's him signed up with Tranmere Rovers, hopefully saved on compensation if he had a club lined up.

Best of luck Jay.

BBC News on Mckay.

It has been a frustrating 18 months, carrying an injury, training once a week and playing through pain, playing on tablets, trying to get me through games and training,"

"So I am glad that has been sorted out now. I have had the groin operation and I hopefully I can get back to my best."

Fingers crossed hes no fibbing!

I think a fit and settled Billy McKay will bang the goals in playing in our side with the likes of Gardyne, Dow, Naismith, Kelly firing balls into the box and linking up with Mikkelsen, Schalk, Curran etc....the attacking options in our team will surely mean he scores.....

The guy has been unsettled for a while now, and I think when he see's the training facilities at County and his family are settled and the way the players are looked after he'll be a happier lad - that hopefully means goals - I think it's a clever bit of business by Ross County!!

Mckay found the going tough at Wigan and latterly Oldham however a drop to this less exacting level means he should start cracking in a few goals - if he remains injury free!

If we've paid 100k, or close, for him I'll be disappointed. He'll be useful, not sure he's a huge upgrade over anyone we have, and we certainly don't need him enough to pay that much for him.

got some doubts about this. will he be able to handle playing for a big club? it's a big step up.
